Tamu Youth Network - Share & Succeed !!!
Most exciting thing about Tamu (Gurung) students and professionals is each has a “success” story to share. Usually he/she is above average, has made a shining example in their colleges or workplace or sports. Often, their colleagues adore them. In almost all cases, they are among sensible individuals from all social and/or ethnic background. They may be termed model individuals!
Most Gurungs, traditionally, pursued non-educational career either following their elders (models), or due to lack of alternative or socio-economic circumstances. So, we are not sufficiently represented in education/professional field. In the midst of push and pull rather than genuine competition we survive only if we are above average. Usually, Tamus do well in areas when performance are measured genuinely (not vaguely) such as in sports, music, mountain climbing, and War. In other words, we do well when and where there is less of corruption, cheating, disloyalty, individualism, dishonesty, laziness, impatience, nepotism and favoritism.
Fortunately, the trend in Tamu education has begun to change in the last few decades as those who pursued non-educational career or continue to do so have invested in their Children’s education. We now have a young Tamu generation that is more educated. Many of us are already tackling the real world challenges globally, whereas others can use some help.
Definitely to a large extent, however, our efforts and successes have been like sterile hybrid seeds that produce bumper harvests but do not proliferate. Why is it the case? Recently, we have discussed this issue among Tamu professionals in the US and in Kathmandu . We concluded let’s begin to network. Let’s begin to share among ourselves and we shall together figure out ways to proliferate/multiply/scale up our successes.
If we network in a systematic way, we will be able to
• Support each other,
• Pat on each other’s back,
• Refer and recommend,
• Nurture and be nurtured,
• Inspire and be inspired,
• Show each other effective, practical and proven ways,
• Mentor each other,
• Lend each other a hand when needed,
• Listen to each other,
Or simply cheer up and celebrate our efforts and successes!
In summary, we say let’s build a community of caring individuals that share common values founded on the heritage of our people who have left a legacy of universal virtues – to believe and practice Bravery, Courage, Collective self, Diligence, Equality, Family/Friends, Honesty, Perseverance and Patience. Our ancestors practiced these virtues in heroic activities all over the world. Let’s understand and practice this legacy in education, professional and business areas in the 21st. century!
To help scale our boutiques we have launched TECANET (Tamu Educational and Career Advancement Network) in www.gurungs.org our cyber home. Please join in, provide vision, take leadership, take ownership of the process and become a change agent for a greater cause! Start local TECANETs and get organized. We welcome your feedback and suggestions!
If you want to join TECANet, please register at this site and send us your member name with a short bio and references to tecanet@gurungs.org or info@tecanet.org TECANet is free for all Tamus.
